A medical doctor will be required to report any type of ownership in a medical manufacturer. This information will be made available to the public through an Internet website. Five year grants will be made to various partnerships in communities for the purpose of combating obesity. Under this bill a community partnership will be a hospital, school, health insurance companies, pediatricians, local governments, local employers, early childhood care providers, or other professions in the health industry. These partnerships will be formed to provide education in the form of exercise, and healthy eating to fight against obesity. An executive counsel will be created to oversee this program. A steering committee composed of local farmers, local restaurants, partnership members, and others will be used to give recommendations to the counsel. An amount of $10 million will be given for this bill in 2010, and money deemed necessary will be given in the years 2011 – 2015. H.R. 3144 was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.
