The Secretary of Education, acting through the Committee on Indian Relations, will make grants available to various schools for the purpose of discontinuing derogatory names of a school’s nickname, mascot, or team name. The grants will be used to purchase new team uniforms and make alterations to a school’s facilities. A Committee on Indian Relations will be created within the Department of Education for the purpose of identifying schools which use derogatory names. This bill’s purpose is to add more personnel to the US borders and ports of entry. Staff enhancements of 5,300 individuals will be hired for the Customs and Border Protection and US Ports of Entry. Equipment such as a 2-way communication device and detection equipment will be supplied to those newly hired. High volume ports in Texas will receive $100 million toward updating the infrastructure.
