Compared to some countries, the education of the US is lagging behind in math and science. Due to each state having its own academic standards, it becomes difficult to gauge how well students are doing in one state compared to other states. For example, states with lower standards in education may look as if they are doing better than states with higher educational standards. This bill brings forth the the attempt to unify the educational system through voluntary American education content standards, along with $611 million. S. 1231 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.
